Customize your iStoria experience to suit your learning needs! You can adjust two different language settings within the app: the interface language and the translation language.
1. Understanding the Difference
📱 Native Language (App Interface): Changes the language of the app's buttons, menus, titles, and instructions.
📖 Translation Language: Changes the language that English words and sentences are translated into (used in stories, the Vocabulary page, and the Open Library).
2. How to Change Your Language Preferences
Follow these simple steps to update your settings:
Go to your Profile page.
Tap the Settings icon (⚙️) in the top corner.
Select the option you want to adjust:
Tap Native Language to change the app interface.
Tap Translation Language to change how words are translated.
Select your preferred language from the list.
Tap Continue to save your changes.
3. Helpful Tips 💡
Full English Immersion: If you select English as your Native Language, the app will automatically set your Translation Language to English (providing English definitions instead of translations). If you prefer translations in your native language, simply go back to settings and change the Translation Language separately.
Supported Languages: Want to know which languages we support? Check out our full list here: Languages Available in iStoria.
4. Troubleshooting Translations 🛠️
Viewing Single Word Meanings: Tap a word once to see its meaning or translation. Avoid pressing and holding, as this selects the entire sentence for highlighting instead of showing the single-word meaning.
Missing Sentence Translations? If you cannot translate full sentences, check your current learning level. The sentence translation feature is exclusive to Levels 1 to 4 to assist beginners. In advanced levels, this feature stops so you can develop the ability to infer meaning directly from context.
