What is the Placement Test and why is it recommended?
The Placement Test assesses your reading, vocabulary, and grammar skills to place you at the most suitable starting level. You can take it in the app via My Profile > Settings > Change your Level.
Warning: Taking the test will reset your current progress (stories, word count, streak, and badges).
Why are other stories locked in the iStoria app?
iStoria follows a gradual learning path to ensure your proper language development. Stories unlock sequentially after completing the current story and its tests. This sequence is designed to reinforce vocabulary and skills effectively and achieve your best progress.
Can I skip stories or levels in iStoria?
Yes, you can, but this feature is exclusively available for paid subscribers. You can skip up to 20% of stories in any level or skip an entire level after completing 80% of its stories.
Why can't I translate sentences in advanced levels?
The sentence translation feature is available and exclusive for paid subscribers, appearing in the first four levels to assist your learning. After that, this feature stops because the pedagogically better way is to infer the meaning from the context of the text to enhance your learning.
Why can't I read more stories or do practices in the app?
iStoria offers a free version that limits your usage to three attempts per day. Each attempt counts as reading a chapter in a story, a book from the library, or completing a practice. These attempts automatically renew every day at midnight according to your local time.
Why are the books in the library section summaries and not full versions? At iStoria, we provide focused summaries to help you absorb content quickly and effectively. We respect intellectual property rights, which is why we only offer summaries. For the full book, please refer to the original publisher or authorized bookstores.
What happens after I complete all levels in iStoria?
After you finish Level 8, you will have learned over 3,000 essential words, giving you a strong foundation in English. You can then review what you've learned through exercises and continue developing your skills with new stories and books that are constantly added to the app's library.
Does the application focus on speaking skills?
The app focuses on reading and listening. A pronunciation assistant feature is in development and will be available soon to help with speaking skills.
Can I choose a specific skill to practice?
No, exercises are presented progressively. Each skill appears automatically after you've mastered the previous one; you cannot manually select a specific skill.
Can I change the story's dialect to American?
Most stories are in a British accent (produced by Oxford) and this cannot be changed. However, you can listen to the American pronunciation of each word by clicking on it, and you can also change the dialect of the assistant's voice in the settings.
Why does the same word appear multiple times in practices?
Each word goes through several skills, and each skill has a repetition count that can be adjusted in the "Vocabulary Practice" settings. Therefore, a word may appear multiple times until you master all the skills, after which it automatically moves to the "I Know" list.
How can I change my learning level in iStoria?
To change your learning level, you can retake the placement test (Profile > Settings > Change Level > Take Placement Test). Taking the new test will result in losing all your previous progress, including words in "I know" and "I learn" lists, badges, and streaks.
Why can't I get a certificate from iStoria?
The certificate is granted exclusively to iStoria subscribers only. If you are a subscriber, go to the Home page, find the completed level with three dots, tap them, and tap "Get Certificate."
Why did I lose my streak and can I restore it?
Your streak is lost if you miss a day of practice or reading. You can restore it within 48 hours using the "Restore streak" button in the app's calendar. After 48 hours, the streak resets.
